Magneto Guitars was founded in May 2009 by French guitar designer Christian Hatstatt. Christian has over 25 years of experience in the guitar industry and formerly served as general manager for Blade Guitars in Basel, Switzerland.
The motivation for starting Magneto was to create instruments that attained "a level of quality never before reached in guitar manufacturing." Magneto pursues precision, tonal balance, and ergonomics in their instruments.
This small guitar company celebrates the virtues of handmade builds while rejecting the concept of guitars as just another assembly-line commodity.
MAGNETO'S JAPANESE TEAM
Originally, all of Magneto's guitars were handmade by a Japanese team headed by luthier Kei San Yatsuzuka. Mr. Yatsuzaka began building guitars in 1977 and co-founded Headway Guitars and Deviser Guitars.
The Japanese team hand-carves and hand-tunes bodies and necks without CNC machines. In order to produce maximum sustain and resonance from their guitars, Magneto employs their proprietary "Tone Influent" design.
MAGNETO'S EVOLUTION
In 2017 Magneto evolved and added a Chinese factory which builds the new U-One Series.
The goal here is to make Magneto guitars more affordable while retaining the smart French designs coupled with high quality production values.
The Japanese factory still thrives in Hamamatsu, Japan and continues to produce handmade guitars at a higher price point.
