Schecter Guitar Research: High Quality, High Affordability

Taking a cue from the earliest days of Schecter Guitar Research, the Traditional Pro electric guitar delivers striking visuals in addition to retro sonics. Photo credit: Schecter Guitar Research.

Schecter Guitar Research was founded in 1976 in Van Nuys, California by Dave Schecter. The company produced replacement guitar parts, such as bridges, electronics, pickups, pickguards, bodies, and necks.

By the early 1980s Schecter was producing its own line of guitars and selling them through an exclusive network of dealers.

Demand for Schecter products continued to swell until the small factory could no longer meet demand. In 1983 a new investment group acquired the company and moved it to Texas.

ACQUISITION BY ESP

In 1987 Schecter was acquired by Hisatake Shibuya, the owner of ESP Guitars and Musicians Institute. Mr. Shibuya moved the factory back to California and invested in modern machinery and technology. He also added a Custom Shop for producing high-end custom guitars.

In 1996 Mr. Shibuya appointed Michael Ciravolo as the new president and director of the company.

Today Schecter products are made in several factories all over the world, including the United States, Japan, Indonesia, and South Korea.

SCHECTER ARTISTS

Schecter artists include Synyster Gates, Jeff Loomis, Robert Smith, Dan Donegan, Jinxx and Jake Pitts, Keith Merrow, Mark Knopfler, Gus G, Pete Townshend, Wes Borland, and Aaron Marshall.
